Chris Struckhoff, the founder and CEO of Lionheart Capital Management LLC has adapted a unique set of policies in his financial planning and advising methods. They are committed to serving their clients with honesty, integrity, and personalized service. From offering a stipend to being a fee-only advisor, these policies are not only designed to take care of clients, but are implemented to make sure that clients fundamentally understand the purpose of their firm’s financial strategies. With years of financial planning under his belt, he now knows poor financial advice is a lot more common than many people realize. 

According to Struckhoff, clients of financial planning firms are often “left in the dark, and are more or less blind to the decisions their financial advisor is making for them.” 

Originally from Huntington Beach, CA, Chris Struckhoff attended Cal State Fullerton for his undergrad and obtained his MBA at Indiana Wesleyan University. Throughout his career, friends and family had turned to him for financial advice. It was this experience, along with his innate passion for finance, and helping others that drove Struckhoff to found Lionheart Capital Management, a fee-only, honest, registered investment advisory firm

A life-long learner, Struckhoff is constantly obtaining additional training and certifications to best serve his clients. After completing certifications from Columbia and UCI, and more recently passing his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ exam, he is now pursuing the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) and CEPA (Certified Exit Planning Advisor) designations.

He strives to educate clients on the intricacies of financial planning and wealth management. Worse, many clients don’t know the difference between fee-only and fee-based financial advisors. While fee-only advisors like Struckhoff only charge a fee for their services and do not make money off commissions for products purchased, fee-based advisors may be financially motivated to recommend products or services that pay huge commissions but aren’t actually ideal. 

According to Struckhoff, there is a huge difference between working with a fee-only financial advisor vs. a fee-based advisor. 

“It’s the difference of working with someone who is only working for you, versus someone working with an advisor whose recommendations they give you may or may not be increasing the commissions they take home,” he says.

Struckhoff is committed to ensuring his clients understand the policies they currently have and the recommendations that he and his firm make. When meeting with any new client, Lionheart Capital goes through an extensive onboarding process to make sure that the client and firm are a mutually good fit. In an ideal world, Struckhoff prefers to work with clients on a long-term basis, as the industry is constantly evolving and the client’s needs and interests may shift as well. The firm is steadfastly involved in the client’s financial well-being, with pivots made in investment strategies as needed and biannual reviews that cover any changes in the client’s personal or financial life. 

Chris Struckhoff explains that clients typically come to them from one of two camps. One type of client is purely interested in investment advising, these clients typically only are interested in having their retirement account and large investments managed. The second client type is those who partner with Lionheart Capital Management for comprehensive financial planning services.

A few years ago, Struckhoff introduced an innovative offer to his clients; a stipend to cover the cost of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and estate attorney to perform tax prep, trust creation, and estate planning services. The point of this stipend is making sure all areas of each client’s financial plan are properly planned for by top experts with niche experience.

“Our goal is to back our recommendations,” Struckhoff explains, adding that his firm puts their money where their mouth is and only recommends financial products they believe in.

Clients can either put this stipend towards an in-house CPA and trust creation, utilize one of Lionheart’s external CPA and estate attorney recommendations, or use their own CPA and estate attorney of choice. Regardless, the goal is to ensure that the client and their best interests are protected.
