Washington, D.C. – July 1, 2026 – James A. Goosby, Jr., a self-made entrepreneur, accountant, and life strategist with over five decades of real-world experience, announces the release of his debut book, Free Your Mind & Your Ass Will Follow, published by Authors Publishing House.
Part memoir, part motivational blueprint, and part cultural celebration, this unconventional self-help guide draws on Goosby’s extraordinary life from growing up in segregation-era Alabama to building a thriving tax business, surviving a federal indictment, and conquering the stress that nearly cost him his life. Recognizing that wisdom knows no borders, the book will be available in five languages: English, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Mandarin Chinese, bringing Goosby’s message of mental freedom to readers around the world.
ABOUT THE BOOK
At its core, Free Your Mind & Your Ass Will Follow is about one radical idea: that the human brain, when liberated from stress, fear, inherited habits, and mental clutter, becomes the most powerful tool a person can possess.
Across 14 punchy, plainspoken chapters, Goosby covers:
Woven throughout is Goosby’s signature style: weaving classic soul, R&B, and gospel music into life lessons, referencing artists from Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin to Teddy Pendergrass and James Brown to illustrate timeless truths in a way that sticks.
FROM THE AUTHOR
“I’m writing this book because I want every human being to understand that stress is a choice and so is freedom. After my heart attack in 2007, I taught myself how to live stress-free, and I’ve felt better ever since. I want to pass that knowledge on. This book is for the people who are still carrying weight they don’t have to carry.” — James A. Goosby, Jr.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
James Arthur Goosby, Jr. was born in Linden, Alabama, in 1949. A graduate of Grambling State University with a degree in accounting (1971), he went on to work as a federal auditor before founding Goosby Tax Service LLC in 1972, a business he has operated for over 50 years.
In 2005, Goosby was indicted alongside others in a federal case involving a nonprofit union he served as accountant. He was acquitted on all six charges, a testament, he says, to the fact that “numbers never lie; only people do.” The stress of that trial contributed to a heart attack in 2007, after which Goosby committed himself fully to mastering stress-free living. The lessons he learned in that journey form the backbone of this book.
He is the proud father of two children, Rahman and Latrina, and is dedicated to his mother, Ms. Bernice Hackworth Goosby, who celebrated her 99th birthday in 2026 and whom he credits as his earliest teacher in the art of living and loving well.
“Free your mind, and the rest will follow.”
