The company reported 500,000 teachers at the time of its March funding announcement. It has since grown to reach educators in more than 100 countries working in 40 languages, with its largest user bases in the UK, US, and Australia. Chalkie was also shortlisted at the 2026 ETIH Innovation Awards, including Best Solution for UK Institutions and Best Teacher Empowerment Tool.
The Workload Crisis Driving Adoption
Teacher workload remains one of the most persistent problems in education. The 2024 Teacher Wellbeing Index found that 78% of UK teachers report work-related stress and 36% show signs of probable clinical depression, with lesson planning and administrative preparation cited as the primary driver of burnout and attrition. Building a complete lesson from scratch — slides, activities, differentiated tasks, vocabulary banks, standards alignment — takes most teachers two to four hours per lesson. For early-career teachers and substitute teachers without accumulated resource banks, that number is higher.
“Reaching a million teachers in under two years tells us the problem we set out to solve exists everywhere,” said Phillip Daneshyar, CEO and co-founder of Chalkie. “Every teacher we talk to is losing evenings and weekends to the same mechanical work. We built Chalkie to give that time back.”
How the AI Lesson Plan Generator Works
Chalkie’s AI lesson plan generator replaces the build-from-scratch workflow entirely. A teacher enters a topic, selects a curriculum framework or state standard — from 23 supported national and regional standards including Common Core, NGSS, TEKS, the UK National Curriculum, and ACARA — chooses a year group and subject, and the platform generates a complete, fully editable lesson slideshow in under 30 seconds. The output includes learning objectives, structured content slides, activities, key vocabulary, and built-in scaffold and stretch differentiation.
Unlike tools that produce text-only lesson plan documents, Chalkie outputs a presentation-ready slideshow — the actual classroom artifact teachers walk in with — formatted, themed, and exportable to Google Slides, PowerPoint, or PDF in one click. The AI Slide Editor lets teachers edit in plain English (“make this slide simpler,” “add a slide on the water cycle,” “differentiate for lower ability”) without leaving the platform.
The platform extends beyond single lessons. Chalkie’s AI unit planner generates a sequenced unit of up to 25 connected lessons with recap and assessment quizzes built in — a full term of curriculum coverage in one generation. The AI worksheet generator produces activity sheets with mixed question types and scaffold/stretch versions from a single prompt, so teachers creating differentiated materials for mixed-ability classrooms do it in one step instead of three.

From Individual Teachers to School-Wide Adoption
Growth has extended past individual teachers into institutional adoption. Departments and school leaders are turning to the Schools Plan, which adds admin controls, centralized billing, and FERPA- and COPPA-compliant data handling, to standardize lesson quality across staff instead of leaving it to each teacher working alone — with no IT setup required.
