Live Edge Furniture Maker Sawdust and Whiskey Debuts in Nashville, TN
Primarily focused on custom tables and desks, Sawdust & Whiskey utilizes elaborate “live edge” wood slabs that preserve the original look of the tree and “let the beauty of nature speak for itself.” The company is debuting in Nashville, Tennessee at 1903.

Mixing whiskey and table saws may sound risky, but two Nashville furniture artisans are up for the challenge.

Primarily focused on custom tables and desks, Sawdust & Whiskey utilizes live edge slabs that highlight the original look of the tree and “let the beauty of nature speak for itself” as the website says.

The beginnings of the high-end furniture company were surprisingly simple. Donny Fallgatter, the original founder, started by building a stand-up desk for his wife. His craftsmanship got quickly noticed and before long he found himself scaling up into a full-time woodworking business.

Chandler Mitchell, the company co-founder, crossed paths with Donny while looking for some unique lumber. Both of them being woodworkers, it wasn’t long before the two hit it off. After realizing they worked well together, Donny and Chandler decided to join forces. Chandler is currently heading up product design while Donny fields customer engagement.

Their ambitions include teaching the craft of making furniture and saving the world (and forests) from bad furniture. And drinking a little whiskey.

The company’s name comes from their tradition of finishing a hard day’s woodworking by trying a new bourbon. The wood is sustainably sourced and features signature styles of slabs like their curved edge tables which, in a sense, preserve the appearance of the entire tree in its own unique way.

Sometimes called a drip slab, these curved edge tables are marketed as being perfect for anyone who wants a unique and stylish piece of furniture that will last for years. The shape of the design makes this tabletop stand out from anything else like it. And the thick and durable construction ensures that it handles whatever you throw at it with ease.

Another flagship product, the river table, is made with thick layers of durable epoxy, resulting in a table that lasts for generations. With vibrant and vivid colors, the epoxy river tables are a great way to touch up a home or office without departing too far from nature. Sawdust & Whiskey will even let customers pick out their own slab and then customize the work from there.

Sawdust & Whiskey has not only carved out a unique niche in design language, but also distinguishes themselves with fast turnaround times in an industry where lead times are notoriously long.

The company also boasts premium finishes, joinery and sculptural ability.

“Boards that can be milled at these dimensions are not only a rarity, they tell their own story.” says Chandler.

“Post catalyzed conversion varnish and a post catalyzed oil finish bonds with the wood on a molecular level. They are the most durable finishes available today.”

Located on Nolensville Pike, their woodshop is experiencing a rapidly growing audience.

Their furniture can be found on their website which features imagery and information on their product types, pricing and their woodworking blog.
