In A Highway in the Midst, Donlin explains his conclusion that the strong East wind did not simply push back hundreds of feet of water to expose the seafloor. Instead, he explores how the biblical description points to a miraculous formation of dry ground across the surface of the sea, parting the surface of the sea into two areas and creating the path for the Israelites to walk across upon.
One of the book’s central discussions focuses on the Hebrew word “Chomah,” traditionally translated as “walls” of water. Donlin examines how the word’s meaning relates more to the function of a defensive barrier rather than necessarily describing a vertical structure, offering readers a different way to understand the imagery described in Exodus.

Jeffrey Donlin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from California State University, Long Beach. He became a Certified Professional Mechanical Engineer in the State of California in 2000 and worked with Northrop Grumman from 1990 to 2002 as a B2 Stealth program Systems Flight Test Engineer. He later worked with California State University as a Facilities Automation Controls Engineer from 2002 to 2020.
