All Pile Foundation Works at Pingshan Station on the Shenzhen-Shantou Railway Completed

Shenzhen, Guangdong – October 14, 2026 – Recently, all 3,127 piles at Pingshan Station on the Shenzhen–Shantou Railway, constructed by China Railway 23rd Bureau Group Co., Ltd., were successfully concreted. This marks the successful completion of pile foundation works for the underground parking garage, bridges, and related facilities at the station, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent structural construction.

The Pingshan Station project involved various types of pile foundations, including foundation pit retaining piles, bridge piles, and structural piles, with diameters ranging from 0.8 metres to 1.8 metres. The geological conditions were complex, with some piles required to pass through layers containing abandoned medium-pressure gas steel pipes, isolated boulders, and hard rock formations.

To ensure safe and efficient construction, the project team deployed various types of equipment according to actual site conditions, including rotary drilling rigs, low-headroom rotary drilling rigs, down-the-hole hammer drills, and percussion drilling rigs. This flexible approach enabled the team to adapt to different geological conditions and the restricted working spaces within the station building.

Meanwhile, the construction area is located close to the existing Pingshan High-Speed Railway Station, where train operations are frequent. To ensure the safety of railway operations, the project team developed a dedicated construction plan and coordinated drilling operations, the transportation and disposal of excavated soil, safe and orderly construction practices, and environmental and water conservation measures. Drilling spoil and slurry were promptly removed to prevent mud from being carried onto roads and to maintain a clean construction site.

The team also strictly implemented the “one machine, one safety protection” requirement, assigning station liaison officers and on-site safety personnel to continuously monitor the entire construction process. These measures enabled the successful completion of all pile foundation works.

Pingshan Station is an important component of the Pingshan Integrated Transport Hub, the only high-speed railway hub in eastern Shenzhen’s urban area. It serves as a key link connecting the existing Xiamen–Shenzhen High-Speed Railway, the newly constructed Shenzhen–Shantou Railway, and the planned Shenzhen–Heyuan High-Speed Railway.

Once completed, the hub will integrate high-speed rail, intercity rail, urban rail transit, Yunba transit, ground-level public transportation, and urban slow-traffic systems. It will establish a rare, multi-level and integrated transportation network in the eastern Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area, combining high-speed rail, intercity rail, metro, and Yunba transit.

The project is expected to further strengthen connectivity and coordinated development between Shenzhen and other cities in the eastern Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area, while providing strong support for regional integration and high-quality development.
